Amboli, Patharpunj and Navaja got over 1,000-mm rainfall in June
Kolhapur: Amboli, a famous hill station in Sindhudurg district, has received highest 1,237.5 mm of rainfall in the month of June followed by Patharpunj in Patan tehsil of Satara district with 1,171 mm of showers.
Gaganbawda in Kolhapur has so far received 814 mm of rainfall, while Mahabaleshwar, another famous hill station in Satara, has received 800 mm of rain.
Meanwhile, Navaja located on the backwaters of Koyna dam has received 1,021 mm rainfall in June.
Patharpunj, which is about 30-km from Patan town in Satara district, became prominent on the national map after the rainfall here surpassed Cherapunji in 2019 when the hamlet of not more than 500 people received over 9,000 mm of showers during monsoon.
Patharpunj is located in the core zone of Chandoli National Park and Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. The rainfall at Patharpunj supplies water to Warna dam and to some extent to Koyna dam. It is located on the boundary of Satara, Sangli, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur district.
In Warna river’s basin, there are three rain gauge stations — Patharpunj, Nivali and Dhangarwada.
Rivers continue to swell
Meanwhile, Krishna river is flowing at four feet and three inches at Irwin Bridge in Sangli, while Panchganga river is flowing at 17 feet and seven inches with six barrages submerged. Water stock in Koyna dam has reached 14 TMC, while Warna dam has a stock of 11.51 TMC.
