Sangli wrestler dead, police suspect suicide
Kolhapur: Wrestler Suraj Janardan Nikam (30), who had won the Kumar Maharashtra Kesari title last year, was found dead at his Nagewadi- Nagnathnagar residence in Khanapur tehsil of Sangli district on Friday night.
The Vita police suspected that Nikam died by suicide. The incident came to light when one of his relatives went to call him and found him unconscious.
Nikam was taken to a rural hospital at Vita, where doctors declared him dead.
His body was cremated on Saturday at Nagewadi, his native village. Suraj got married barely only-one-a-half months ago. He is survived by his mother, wife and a brother.
