Two youth from Nipani drowned in Dudhganga river basin at Kalammawadi dam in Kolhapur district
KOLHAPUR: Two youths from Nipani town got drowned in the Dudhganga river basin at Kalammawadi dam on Monday morning. The two deceased along with their other friends had come to Radhanagari tehsil in Kolhapur district for monsoon tourism. The deceased have been identified as Ganesh Chandrakant Kadam (age 18), Prateek Patil (22), both residents of Andolannagar in Nipani.
As per the primary information received from the spot and from Radhanagari police station, thirteen youths from Nipani town in Belgavi district of Karnataka state had come to Kalammawadi dam on Monday morning.
One of the youth Ganesh Chandrakant Kadam (18), even when he didn't know how to swim, got into the waters of Dudhganga river basin in front of the Kalammawadi dam along with his other friends. As Ganesh couldn't anticipate the depth of the water he started sinking. To save him, the car driver Prateek Patil (22) who was with him jumped into the water and reached till Ganesh, but as out of fear Ganesh hugged Prateek, both got drowned.
Radhanagari Police Inspector Santosh Gore, Sub Inspector Khandu Gaikwad, police constables Bhairavnath Patil, Raghunath Powar, rescue team members Jaysing Kirulkar, Dhondiram Rane are conducting search operation at the spot to find out the bodies of both the deceased. Due to high rainfall, the flow of water is increasing due to which there are obstructions in rescue work.
