KOLKATA: Education minister Partha Chatterjee is not ready to take the onus of inserting the controversial clauses in the draft statute of Jadavpur University.
On Thursday, governor and chancellor Keshari Nath Tripathi too did not mince any word when he said that the inclusions were not done by Raj Bhavan.
On Friday, Chatterjee said that he was not aware of the clauses being included in the draft and it was rather a “committee” which has done it.

On the other hand, the Jadavpur University Teachers Association (Juta) held its general body meeting on Friday. Taking a strong objection to the included clauses in the draft statute which has raised fear of gagging the opposition voice in the university by the government, Juta observed — there will be univocal protest against the additions made in draft statute and demand for withdrawal of those clauses. JUTA will give it in writing to University.
“We will also meet VC Suranjan Das on August 16 and demand for immediate date of EC and Court meeting regarding Statute. JUTA will also co-ordinate with Officers, non-teaching staffs and Students regarding unified movement against the draft statute sent by Government. Our extended executive committee will meet on Tuesday and prepare a detail movement plan regarding Statute,” said a Juta member.
JUTA will also form a human chain on Tuesday observe half day cease work and sit-in-demonstration outside EC meeting.
“If we doesn't get any response from the minister within August 29 then we will observe one day cease work on August 31,” added the member.
