KOLKATA: Loreto College has taken an initiative on Monday to form an apolitical students council conducting an oath taking ceremony at college for the students representatives. The state education minister Bratya Basu was present as the chief guest.
Education minister Bratya Basu appreciated the contribution of the college to the society and the initiative that they have taken for the formation of students council.

College teacher in charge A Nirmala said, “The student elections were held under non-political banner following democratic manner. The major focus is to conduct such thing is to provide students a platform along with studies, to nurture their leadership power."
The student council elections were held on May 17. A teacher said, "In a first of its kind this time the name of the candidates were put up in front of all the teachers. They cast their votes in closed chits and then based on their votes final candidature list was told to the students. Students voted based on that final list and came up with President and the Vice President. In a first this time a position of Treasurer was also voted for. Apart from that the office bearers for various societies and class representatives were selected through online voting."
Students elections are yet to be conducted in the higher education institutions in Bengal. At the same time it has been decided the election will nit be held before Durga Puja.
Amid the controvercy of not conducting students elections largely after 2017, the event was quite significant where the question has again took a fresh turn.
