LUCKNOW: Heatwave conditions abated in most parts of UP on Thursday following a change in wind pattern and subsequent thundershowers at a few places in west UP and terai belt. Also, southwest monsoon, which was stalled for some time, has revived and expected to arrive in east UP in next 3-4 days.
A brief spell of light rainfall also occurred in the city bringing relief from the scorching weather prevailing for the past two weeks.
The maximum temperature dropped to 37.8 degrees Celsius, 0.4 units above normal, and minimum temperature was 27.3 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees above normal. The sky will be partly cloudy with strong surface wind (speed 20-30 Kmph) on Friday. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 40 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.
"So far, dry and hot westerly winds from the desert region of Rajasthan were dominating the atmosphere leading to heat wave conditions. Now, moisture laden easterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal are also blowing in the state. The interaction between the westerly and easterly winds have resulted in thunderstorms/showers in west UP and terai belt bordering Nepal," said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the state met department.
No significant change is expected in weather conditions on Friday and Saturday. Rainfall may occur in most parts of the state, including Lucknow, between Sunday and Tuesday, he added.
