Ludhiana: The first FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 was lodged by Ludhiana police commissionerate at Dehlon police station at 7.35pm on Monday. The FIR has been lodged under sections 303 (2) (theft), 304 (2) (Theft in a dwelling house) and 317 (2) (receiving stolen property), on the complaint of ASI Buta Singh. The FIR was lodged against Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and Rahul Singh for allegedly snatching mobiles and stealing bikes.
The second FIR has been lodged at Model Town police station under Section 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) BNS, against Vishal Gupta of Bhamian Kalan on the complaint of a 25-year-old woman from Model House. The woman had called the accused, who is AC mechanic, to service her air conditioner. Finding her alone at home, the accused assaulted her. He was nabbed and handed over to the police following which a case was registered against him.
No case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered in Ludhiana rural and Khanna police districts on Monday. SSP Khanna Amneet Kondal said that only cases under NDPS and Excise Acts had been registered.
