New doghouse comes up at Gadvasu for stay of canines under treatment
Ludhiana: In a significant development for pet owners, the Guru angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Gadvasu) has constructed a dedicated doghouse to accommodate pets requiring extended treatment.
This facility addresses a major concern faced by pet owners, particularly those traveling from other states, as most local hotels, guest houses and rented accommodation do not permit pets.

As of now, the pet owners of Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and other states are facing significant challenges in this regard. They either return home or make some other arrangements. The newly constructed doghouse, situated adjacent to Gadvasu canteen, will offer a secure and comfortable environment for pets undergoing treatment, once it is opened. The doghouse has around 25 kennels.
As per the administration of the university, there will also be a dog park for playing activities of animals and construction of this park is underway. They said apart from the pending construction, they are yet to obtain permission from the animal ethics committee, which is mandatory to offer such a facility.
Gadvasu will charge for the use of the doghouse, which will help in maintaining the facility and ensuring high standards of care. The rent structure will be designed to be affordable, with tiers based on the duration of the stay of a pet, said an official.
Another official said that now the pet owners do not have to worry about where to keep their pets during treatment.
With the introduction of the doghouse, such concerns will be alleviated, allowing pet owners to focus solely on their pets’ recovery.

He said the motive is to ensure that pets receive uninterrupted care.
Jatinder Singh, an animal lover and a resident of model town Ludhiana, said the facility of the doghouse will mark a significant advancement in veterinary care in the region.
Dr Inderjeet Singh, vice-chancellor of the university, said the aim is to provide the best possible care for pets and reduce the stress on the owners. He said the university already houses a doghouse, which has around 22 kennels. This facility is being used for nutritional experiments on pets.
