NRI cheated of 46 lakh in online fraud
Ludhiana: Two persons have been booked for fraudulently withdrawing Rs 46 lakh from the account of an NRI. Balwant Singh of Heeran village, at present residing in Canada, lodged a complaint stating that he has a senior citizens account in the local branch of the SBI where his pension is credited. He retired as a junior engineer from PSPCL.
The complainant said that he moved to Canada in 2017, and when he returned on April 24, he found that he had only Rs 20,912 in his account whereas the amount should have been Rs 46 lakh.
Singh said that neither he nor his family members withdrew money. He found that the missing money was transferred from his account to other accounts through ATMs and internet banking. He said that he has not taken any such facility. He does not have an ATM card or access to internet banking and cheque book. Police found that the money was transferred to the accounts of Ranjit Singh of Lamochad village and Sarup Singh of Wajida village, both in Fazilka district. tnn
