Call for cluster-based approach in seaweed farming

Ramanathapuram: Sagar Mehta, joint secretary of the department of fisheries, stressed the importance of implementing a cluster-based approach in seaweed farming during his recent visit to the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) at Mandapam Regional Centre in Ramanathapuram on Sunday.According to a release from CMFRI, Mehta engaged in extensive discussions with scientists from CMFRI and the Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI). The visit encompassed a comprehensive tour of CMFRI facilities, including the Marine Fish Broodbank, Marine Hatchery, Recirculatory Aquaculture System, Museum, Marine Aquarium, and fish farm.Accompanied by CMFRI scientists and officials from the Tamil Nadu fisheries department’s Ramanathapuram office, the delegation also visited a seaweed farming site at Munaikadu village in Palk Bay. tnn
