Virudhunagar: Virudhunagar district collector V P Jeyaseelan on Saturday warned that stringent action would be initiated against the fireworks units which are functioning with violations.
In a statement, Jeyaseelan said that four special teams have been constituted to inspect the units. During the past three months, the teams inspected 439 units and had suspended the licences of 86 units which were functioning with violations.
Similarly, officials from the directorate of industrial safety and health inspected 258 units and suspended the licences of 56 units functioning with violations. This apart, officials from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) had suspended the licences of 12 units.
He said that in a meeting conducted in May, fireworks manufacturers were instructed to install boards in front of the units with details including the name of the licence holder, licence number, licence type, number of workers. Many units have not installed such boards. Boards should be installed in front of all the units within a week. The village administrative officers should ensure the same. If boards are not installed within a week, then action would be initiated.
