Retiring driver gifts sewage suction vehicle to corporation
Madurai: A retiring driver of Madurai corporation who wanted to pay back for the contentment he felt in his job donated a sewage suction vehicle to the civic body on his last day of service on Monday.
G Manoharan, who worked as a driver for the assistant commissioner in the corporation central zone, retired after 32 years of service. Accompanied by his wife, son and daughter, he met mayor Indrani Ponvasanth.
“I have driven for many officers and have not caused a single accident. I have always prioritized safety and avoided bad habits. This job taught me good habits and allowed me to support my family. Thanks to the corporation’s salary, my son has completed a BE and my daughter an ME,” he said.
“As a mark of gratitude, I have bought this second-hand Tata Ace vehicle with a sewage suction motor to help with blocked drains,” he said. Praising his sense of duty, the mayor wished him happiness with his family during his retirement. tnn
