Ivan: Will move resolution against NEET in council
Mangaluru: MLC Ivan D’Souza announced his intention to propose a resolution in the upcoming Legislative Council session to reject the NEET in Karnataka. D’Souza told reporters on Saturday that the resolution would be presented during the session, which is set to begin on July 15.
He expressed concern that, like other states, Karnataka should consider rejecting the medical entrance for its students.
He argued that students from the state should be allocated seats within the state itself, criticising the central govt for its inability to address the NEET paper leak issue.
D’Souza accused the central govt of being in collusion with tuition centres and stated that the Congress was not allowed to speak in Parliament.
D’Souza urged the central govt to either rectify the errors or allow states to manage medical seat allocations independently.
Regarding disaster management, D’Souza mentioned his discussion with deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP and the tahsildars. He revealed that the district has a reserve of Rs 17 crore for disaster management, with each taluk having access to more than Rs 50 lakh. D’Souza discussed allowing taluks the autonomy to undertake emergency relief efforts.
He praised the efficiency of the crisis management teams at the village level and said that district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao would review the disaster management plans on July 5.
Addressing recent instances of electrocution, D’Souza attributed them to failures on the part of Mescom and said that Mescom has initiated the installation of trippers at nearly 1,600 locations to mitigate the danger.
