The tragic suicide of a 17-year-old girl in Saharanpur, involving blackmail and mental harassment, led to her taking the extreme step of hanging herself. The accused shared her photos, leading to a scolding from her brother. The villagers cremated her without police notification.

MEERUT: Two men were charged with abetment of suicide of a 17-year-old girl in area under Titron police station in Saharanpur on Wednesday, said police.
SSP Saharanpur Rohit Singh Sajwan told TOI, “Both accused were neighbours of the victim. One of them had some photos of the girl on his phone, which he shared with the other accused. The latter subsequently informed the victim’s brother about the photos, who then scolded his sister.
Later, the minor girl hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her residence. An FIR has been registered under IPC section 306 (abetment of suicide) against the two accused men. The family accused them of blackmailing the minor and mentally harassing her, which allegedly led her to take the extreme step.”
SHO Titron Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said, “The villagers cremated the minor without informing the police. We are probing the case. Further actions will be taken accordingly.”
