Tourist footfall at Amangarh Tiger Reserve doubles in a yr

Bijnor: Two years after its launch, Amangarh Tiger Reserve in Kheripur is attracting more tourists, with 4,614 visitors, including six foreigners, this season. Last season, it was around 2000.
According to authorities, 972 jeep tours showcased elephants, tigers, bears, leopards, deer, and more, generating Rs 8.5 lakh in revenue.
Sub-divisional forest officer Anshuman Mittal said, “The safari in ATR started two years ago.
In 2022-23 season, it earned Rs 4 lakh; this has doubled. ATR had tourists from Delhi and National Capital Region, and overseas too this year.”
This season, the reserve opened on Nov 15 and govt extended it from June 15 to June 25. The reserve was developed as an alternative to Jim Corbett National Park, ATR was notified as a tiger reserve in 2012, initially part of Jim Corbett National Park before Uttarakhand became a separate state.
Tourist activities will resume on Nov 15.Bijnor DFO Arun Kumar Singh said, “Currently, only govt guest houses are available for tourists, but resorts are being developed. Jeep safari bookings are only offline.”
