52 arrested for racing and rash driving on Mumbai's Western Express Highway

MUMBAI: Kherwadi police on Monday arrested 52 people and seized 34 two-wheelers during a special drive targeting those involved in racing and rash driving on Western Express Highway the previous night.
The offenders were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving as well as under the Motor Vehicles Act for violating traffic rules.
Kherwadi senior police inspector Pandurang Mullick said that they have been conducting regular night drives on Western Express Highway, particularly in the stretch between Mahim Causeway and Bandra Reclamation.
In a similar anti-racing drive conducted by Bandra police in April, 20 bikes were seized, and 20 people were arrested at Bandra Reclamation. The bikers often check for nakabandis before engaging in races and stunts, said sources. tnn
