NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reported on Wednesday that Mumbai experienced 13,000 fire incidents over the past three years, resulting in 65 fatalities and 473 injuries. This information was revealed in a written response to a question by Congress legislator Bhai Jagtap.
"Till January this year, there have been 13,000 fire incidents in Mumbai in the last three years, which caused the death of 65 persons and injured 473.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has conducted fire safety audits of 1,270 buildings with the government finding deficiencies in 278 structures," Shinde stated in his written reply.
The BMC’s report indicated that the deficiencies identified in these 278 buildings during their earlier survey have since been addressed.
Shinde highlighted the importance of safety measures, noting, "it was mandatory to have fire evacuation lifts in building exceeding a height of 70 metres."
