BMC has finished boring a 9.7km water tunnel from Amar Mahal to Parel via Wadala, making Mumbai only the second city in the world after New York to have 100km of water supply tunnels.

Project’s aims
Sufficient water supply at high pressure for 2 wards and parts of 2 more till 2061:
  • F-North (Matunga-Wadala area)
  • F-South (Parel)
  • E (Byculla)
  • L (Kurla)

The tunnel
  • Depth 100-110 metres

  • Diameter 3.2 metres: External (excavated diameter) 2.5 metres: Internal (because of protective concrete lining)
