MUMBAI: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday laid the foundation stone for Trishul War Museum in Leh.
Chief minister Eknath Shinde had already handed over a cheque of Rs 3 crore for the museum in July. Fadnavis assured that more funds will be made available for the project by the Maharashtra government, if required.
The war museum, which will be spread over an area of 9,000 sq ft and will be designed as a trishul (trident), is expected to be ready by next year.

Fadnavis said that through the museum, citizens will learn about the role and responsibilities of the Indian Army.
The museum will comprise three halls dedicated to the brave jawans of Trishul Division who died in the line of duty in the 1965, 1971, 1991 wars and in the recent Operation Snow Leopard. Trishul Division has till date earned 150 bravery awards, including the Param Vir Chakra.
Since it is located on the Manali Highway, it will become a tourist destination too.
