‘IAS officer to probe illegal slum extension’
Mumbai: Amid demands in the state assembly, industries minister Uday Samant said that an IAS officer would be appointed to probe the illegal extension in the height of slum structures. He also said that satellite mapping of slums across Mumbai would be conducted to identify illegal encroachments.
Responding to demands for a white paper on slum encroachments, Samant said the BMC would be asked to undertake this task.

BJP MLA Ashish Shelar said that the BMC staff was inadequate to cope with the extent of slum encroachments in the city. “There are shanties in Nargis Dutt Nagar that are being sold for Rs 20 lakh,” he claimed.
BJP MLA Sunil Rane demanded action against the slum mafia. Ashish Shelar said that in the past, there were laws like the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords and Bootleggers Act which had acted as a deterrent. Priyanka Kakodkar
