Mandya: Starting Monday, the
responsibility of issuing birth and death certificates will be shouldered by gram panchayat (GP) secretaries. The public is required to submit the necessary documents to the secretaries within 30 days of the occurrence of birth or death, to obtain the certificates.
On Saturday, the zilla panchayat organised a training session for GP secretaries, to familiarise them with the process of issuing these documents.
With this new system in place, the GP secretaries will assume the role of deputy registrars of birth and death. Upon verification of the documents provided by villagers, they are obligated to issue a free copy of the certificates.
During the inauguration of the training programme, ZP CEO Shaikh Tanveer Asif emphasised that the introduction of this new mechanism aims to ensure prompt service delivery to the public. “These two documents are critical, as many services are delivered based on them,” he said.
He urged the public to ensure that all births and deaths are registered, highlighting their significance as essential documents for accessing various services. As part of the event, he unveiled a poster emphasising the importance of mandatory registration of birth and death at the village level. The training programme was attended by senior ZP officials.
