MCC will deploy German tech vehicles to clear clogged UGDs
Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is planning to address persistent issue of blocked underground drainages (UGD) by procuring advanced German-made super sewer sucker, recycler, and jetting machine. The move aims to handle complaints swiftly, overcoming the limitations of current methods in addressing the daily average of 100 complaints, which spike during rains.
Currently, the MCC faces significant challenges with sewer blockages and in some places, complaints are attended to after a day or two.

A few residents of an apartment in Ramakrishna Nagar have reportedly moved out due to frequent sewer blockages occurring every fortnight. The MCC’s existing infrastructure includes only one jetting vehicle for every three to four wards, which is inadequate for the city’s needs.
At a meeting, former minister and Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda highlighted the dismal situation in Ramakrishna Nagar where complaints of sewer blockage are attended to after a day or two. MCC commissioner Asaad-Ur-Rehman Shariff emphasised on the need to buy a super sewer sucking machine, highlighting the current limitations of having just one jetting vehicle for four wards.
‘100 complaints of UGD blockage every day’
KJ Sindhu, deputy commissioner (development), MCC, explained the gravity of the issue. “The MCC has been receiving an average of 100 complaints of UGD blockage every day, and the number goes up during the rain. Attending to every complaint has been a challenge due to shortage of sewer sucking and jetting vehicles. We have only one vehicle for four to five wards of MCC, which has 65 wards. These vehicles have limited functions and can’t continuously attend to complaints,” she said.

The proposed German technology vehicles can manage up to 20 complaints continuously without the need for a break to empty the stored sewage water, a significant improvement over the current system.
These vehicles will suck the sewer water, recycle, and empty it into the cleared manhole. The new, advanced vehicle is expected to provide more permanent solutions, reducing the likelihood of repeated complaints.
