Monsoon well set over Ngp, rainfall deficit down to 22%
Nagpur: Following revival of monsoon towards the fag end of June, the Nagpur’s rainfall deficiency has come down to 22% while Vidarbha has now received normal rainfall as its departure stands at -16%. The normal range lies between -19% to 19%.
As rains eluded Nagpur, the district faced 36% deficiency in the first 20 days of June. Thanks to the light to moderate rainfall in the last few days, the deficiency has moved closer to normal range.
Vidarbha too was rain deficient, but the average rainfall now stands at 146.6mm.

West Vidarbha, where the agricultural is mostly rainfed, has received good rainfall so far in the season, leaving the districts of Buldhana, Washim, Akola and Yavatmal with surplus rains. Chandrapur and Gondia too have received heavy rainfall.
However, districts like Bhandara (-58%), Gondia (-47%) and Gadchiroli (-41) are facing high deficiency despite good rainfall. The high normal range too is seen as a reason for rain deficiency.
On Monday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said the monthly rainfall over Vidarbha during the month of July is most likely to be normal to above normal.
In its monthly outlook for rainfall and temperature during July, the IMD has forecast normal to above normal rain in most parts of the country. The minimum and maximum temperatures too are likely to be above normal.

Praveen Kumar, in-charge weather forecasting at RMC, said light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms would continue over Nagpur and other districts of Vidarbha in the next four to five days. “West Vidarbha received above normal rain while east Vidarbha got scanty rain. One of the key reasons behind this is normal range for west Vidarbha districts is lower than east Vidarbha,” he said.
An average is calculated based on rainfall in the entire district though the numbers could vary significantly in each station or taluka. On Sunday, the KVK station had recorded 55mm rainfall, but the average rainfall has remained below the normal mark as per the average method calculation for Nagpur.
