After night in lock-up, Maloo to be produced in court today
Nagpur: Ritika Maloo, an accused in the Ram Jhula accident which took place on February 25, surredered at the Tehsil police station on Monday. Despite speculation of her plan to move Supreme Court, Maloo sought to end her hide-and-seek with police and surrendered.
Sources stated Maloo first visited her lawyer along with family members earlier in the day, following which she went to Tehsil police station even as cops were busy with implementation of three new criminal laws under BNS and related public awareness programmes.
Tehsil police had organized a meeting with stakeholders, followed by a rally on criminal laws.
After night in lock-up, Maloo to be produced in court today

Amidst a busy schedule, Maloo’s surrender added another responsibility to the force, particularly investigation officer Senior inspector Sandeep Buwa. “We conducted a pre-arrest medical examination, and she would be lodged in a women’s lock-up before being produced in court on Tuesday,” said Buwa, adding police would interrogate her on various aspects of the case.
Buwa had issued a notice to Maloo on May 14 for appearing at the police station for questioning, which she ignored. Police repeatedly told the sessions court and high court about her non-cooperation, which later became a ground for cancellation of her bail.
“She (Maloo) claimed to have been with her parental kin, but we would verify this,” said Buwa.
Sources stated police would seek Maloo’s custody remand for quizzing on additional issues in the probe that are yet to come to the fore.
Advocate Prakash Jaiswal stated police had to seek permission from the magistrate court for arrest and need to withdraw a revision petition from sessions court which they had moved earlier to vacate the bail order of the lower court.
