Nashik: As many as 71 dengue cases were reported across the city in the past week, taking the tally for the month of June to 165.
Since Jan 1, the city has recorded a total of 269 dengue cases — 25 cases in January, 22 in February, 11 in March, 13 in April, 33 in May and the remaining in June.
The civic body has also imposed fines on four builders who were found responsible for creation of mosquito breeding spots at their construction sites in Pathardi area of Cidco division.
“We found several mosquito breeding spots at the construction sites of these four builders. We recovered a fine of Rs 8,400 from them,” an NMC official said.
“Recent bouts of rainfall has led to the accumulation of water, leading to the creation of mosquito breeding spots. Such spots have also been observed in water coolers, flowerpots and water containers in residential societies,” the official added.
The NMC has appealed to the citizens to take necessary measures to prevent formation of mosquito breeding spots and also advised them to keep their water storage areas dry once a week.
The civic body has also warned the residents of a Rs 200 fine for each breeding spot found on or around their premises.
The NMC has also initiated steps, including spraying, fogging, and creating awareness among residents about preventive measures, to combat spread of dengue.
