13 incidents of drowning reported at Raigad from May 25 to Jun 24
Navi Mumbai: So far 13 persons have drowned in various tourist spots in Raigad district over a month. Most of them are tourists. The drowning incidents have exposed the lack of safety around beaches, talaos, dams among others. The Kharghar police has banned entry into hills, waterfalls and channels from June 17 to September 30 in its jurisdiction by putting up warning banners.
The drowning incidents were reported between May 25 and June 24. Of those drowned, most were tourists from Mumbai and Pune. 7 of those who drowned were minors. According to officials, revellers enter water bodies unaware of dangers like the depth of water, sludge, etc leading to accidents. Umesh K Parida
