Mahamaya Flyover revamp to hit traffic from Noida to Delhi
Noida: The Noida Authority has started resurfacing work on the Noida to Delhi side of the Mahamaya Flyover, affecting traffic. Officials said the rains had halted the work for now but it will take 10 days to finish after they resume the resurfacing.
The 100-metre stretch that is being redeveloped connects key areas such as Sector 37, City Centre to Sector 94, Amity University, Kalindi Kunj and parts of Delhi, including Sarita Vihar and Shaheen Bagh.
The road has dust and gravel spread all over it due to the work being carried out there. Commuters are advised to take a detour in order to avoid snarls and rough roads.
Gaurav Kumar, a commuter and resident of Delhi, said that the condition of the road is not good right now. “The dust and uneven surface are creating traffic jams and posing safety hazards specially for bikers. This needs to be completed as soon as possible,” Kumar said.
Vaibhav Kumar, another commuter, said that he saw a biker skidding on the gravel and suffered minor injuries. “People come from Sector 37 and the City Centre side and also a part of Noida Expressway converges on Mahamaya Flyover. The traffic pressure increases during peak evening hours at the spot,” he said.
The development work involves milling — removing the surface of the road — and then bituminous concreting. The milling work has already been conducted but the bituminous concreting is yet to start.
In response to the concerns, Vijay Rawal, deputy general manager of Noida Authority, said that the Noida to Delhi side of the stretch had developed rough patches. “We decided to get it repaired. We have completed the milling process and the bituminous concreting will be done soon. However, the rainfall has halted the work and we are waiting for the weather to improve. The bituminous concreting will be done in one day. It will make the stretch smooth and then the remaining work will be done in a week. We understand the inconvenience caused to the commuters and are working diligently to complete the resurfacing work,” he said.

Meanwhile, there is already a diversion on the Delhi to Noida side of the Mahamaya Flyover after the Authority restricted vehicle movement last week on the road connecting Mahamaya Flyover to Dalit Prerna Sthal due to the construction of an underpass. This restriction is likely to stay for another three months.
