PATNA: Pavilion hopping, array of competitions for schoolchildren, cultural events and awareness campaigns are on the cards as 110th Bihar Diwas will be celebrated in a big manner for three days from March 22 following improvement in Covid situation.
Bihar Education Project Council (BEPC), a wing of the state education department, is gearing up to host the event. It was on March 22 that the then British rulers had carved out Bihar from Bengal Presidency in 1912.
The state has been celebrating Bihar Diwas every year since 2010. However, only symbolic celebrations were held in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid pandemic.
The main event will be held at Gandhi Maidan this time, where education and other departments will put up their pavilions. The cultural events will be held at S K Memorial Hall and Ashok Convention Centre. The education department is in the process of selecting the theme for the celebrations.
Education minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said discussions were being held to choose one of the three themes for the event – ‘Jal Jeevan Hariyali’, ‘Samaj Sudhar Abhiyan’ and prohibition. “The CM has asked the department to organise the three-day event on a large scale. A series of programmes will be held as part of the celebrations. Artists will be roped in from other states as well to perform at S K Memorial Hall,” he said.
The minister added school-level competitions, cultural events and awareness programmes will also be organised. “The ‘Bihar Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2021’ will be given to such government schools which promote cleanliness and practice hygiene,” he said.
A BEPC official said the education department was in talks with other departments for putting up pavilions and stalls at Gandhi Maidan. “The education department will have three different pavilions for primary, secondary and higher secondary sections. Each pavilion will have several stalls. Children will participate in competitions and there will be an entertainment section too for them. Food court will also be there at Gandhi Maidan,” he added.
