BEGUSARAI: A 23-year-old man allegedly killed his mother by hitting her head with a brick at Pachamba village under Singhaul police station area in Begusarai district on Friday morning.
The deceased, identified as Nutan Devi (42), was getting ready for her morning prayers after taking a bath, as per her usual routine. However, as she was standing just in front of the house, her elder son Anand Kumar approached her menacingly and attempted to strangle her after being denied money.
Witnessing Anand's shocking behaviour towards his mother, Nutan's younger son Anubhav, along with his uncles, rushed to save her life. But before anyone could reach the spot, Anand pulled his mother inside and locked the gate of the house.
According to Anubhav, after locking the gate, Anand dragged his mother to the courtyard, where he ruthlessly hit her head with a brick. Nutan died on the spot. After the murder, Anand tried to escape, however, locals chased and caught him, Anubhav said, adding that Anand had also locked another gate from inside. “Since the doors were made of steel, we could not break them to save her,” he said.
Anubhav revealed that his mother was the sole earning member of the family. “She used to work as domestic help to support the family. My father died in a rail accident 10 years ago, and Anand was unemployed. He had an estranged relationship with his wife. On Thursday, Anand had demanded money from his mother to buy medicines for treating his skin disease he had been suffering from. However, mother said she did not have money. Infuriated, Anand killed her,” Anubhav said.
Begusarai SP Manish said the accused has been arrested.
