PATNA: A man allegedly killed his 28-year-old wife when she opposed his illicit relationship with his sister-in-law (elder brother’s wife) in Purnia district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Savitri Devi.
Her husband Karamchand Das was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased’s family members, police said.
They added that her younger brother, Akhilesh Das, filed a murder complaint against the woman’s husband and his sister-in-law, Sarita Devi, who allegedly strangled Savitri and hanged her at their house in Damgara village under Dhamdaha police station area in the district.

Akhilesh, in the FIR, stated that he received information around 6.30am that his sister had died by suicide. “When I, along with my family members, reached Damgada, we came to know that my sister has not committed suicide, but was murdered by her husband and his sister-in-law. I called the Dial-112 team of Purnia police, who reached here sent the body to the Sadar hospital for postmortem,” he said.
Dhamdaha SHO Kumar Abhinav said, “As per the FIR, to get Savitri out of their way, the man and his sister-in-law staged her fake suicide. A case of murder has been registered against the husband and his sister-in-law. The accused husband has been sent to jail, while raids are being carried out to nab Sarita. The couple’s three children were also not found in the house. It appears that Sarita fled the village along with the children.”
