Universities, colleges of Patna to reopen today after monthlong vacation

Patna University is conducting spot round admissions for various courses, including at Vanijya Mahavidyalay. PATNA: The universities and colleges of the state are set to buzz with activities on Monday when they reopen after monthlong summer vacation.
Although the colleges are in the midst of admission season these days with different institutions announcing the cutoff lists for admission to their four-year degree courses in arts, science and commerce streams, classes of some old batches are likely to commence on Monday.
Some institutions are also conducting pending examinations for different courses to regularize delayed academic sessions.
The universities have already announced on their websites the schedules of admissions to their different courses in the current academic session, but still students as well as their guardians can be seen visiting different institutions and making enquiries about the details of admission process and the required amount of fees.
In Patna University (PU) colleges, admission to four-year degree courses under regular streams and in the three-year degree courses under self-financing streams in arts, science and commerce faculties has almost been completed in three rounds in most colleges. Now, the seats which still have remained vacant will be filled through spot round of admissions commencing Tuesday.
PU dean of students’ welfare (DSW) Anil Kumar said the merit list of students selected for admission in the spot round will be published on Monday. Admissions in different colleges will be held from 10 am to 4 pm on July 2, 4 and 5, he said.
As many as 1,210 sanctioned seats, including 318 in B N College, 293 in Magadh Mahila College, 207 in Patna College, 142 in Patna Science College and 250 in Vanijya Mahavidyalay, are still vacant in regular four-year degree courses. Besides, 246 seats are vacant in different colleges under self-financing streams, said the dean.
PU has already initiated the process of admission of students to its post-graduation courses in the faculties of arts, science, commerce, education and law.
