PATNA: A 65-year-old woman was crushed to death while a seven years' old boy of her neighbourhood died in shock when an earthmover engaged in Patna Metro Rail Project killed her on the roadside of NH-30 in Patna on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Bedamia Devi and Ganesh Kumar.
The woman and the child were the residents of the slum area under Agamkuan police station.
According to the incharge of Bypass police station, Birendra Kumar, the woman and the boy were sleeping under the earthmover near NH-30 where the Patna metro rail work is going on. The driver could not see the woman and the boy and moved the earthmover over the woman. She died on the spot while the boy had no injury. However, he also died seemingly due to heart failure. The actual cause would be known after the autopsy report, Kumar said.
The bodies were sent to NMCH for postmortem. The machine was seized and the driver arrested. The slum dwellers tried to block traffic on NH-30, but the police managed to pacify them. The people were demanding compensation to the family of the deceased.
