Pune: Over 300 people from diverse faiths came together for the Aikya Dindi — an interfaith unity walk with warkaris in the city on Monday.
The walk, organised by The Muslim Cooperative Bank, Rizwani Masjid Trust, Sufi Warkari Vichar Manch, and Sakhalipir Talim National Maruti Temple, started from Sakhalipir Talim in Nana Peth at 10.30am and reached Rizwani Masjid in Ganj Peth by afternoon.
Under this initiative, over 1,000 warkaris were provided free medical checkups at The Muslim Cooperative Bank’s Raviwar Peth branch from 9am to 6pm. “This initiative is aimed at promoting harmony and celebrating the city’s rich cultural tapestry,” said Mashkur Shaikh, president of Sufi Warkari Vichar Manch.
Participants from all walks of life joined the Aikya Dindi, including religious leaders, community representatives, and citizens, who embraced the spirit of togetherness.
“At the end of our walk, we served vegetable biryani and sheer kurma as a celebratory lunch,” said Shaikh.
“The initiative is a testament to Pune’s rich cultural fabric. People of different faiths have coexisted harmoniously for centuries and celebrate festivals together. The Aikya Dindi is not merely a symbolic gesture but a living embodiment of the values that have shaped Pune’s identity,” said Dr P A Inamdar, chancellor of Dr P A Inamdar University.
Inamdar has been participating in the palkhi procession for a decade.
Meanwhile, Raikumar Nahar, president of Poona Merchants Chamber, said, “Like each year, we have made food and lodging provisions for pilgrims at Market Yard. Toilets and security measures were arranged by the Agricultural Produce Market Committee.”
