Bastar’s tribal college student brutally murdered in Raipur, Congress to burn effigies of CM, HM as protest
RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh capital police have arrested a youth and a minor for brutal murder of a tribal college student from Bastar who was studying in Raipur. The 21-year-old student was a native of Lohandiguda in Bastar district and was pursuing first year studies from a private college in Raipur.
Strongly condemning the incident, opposition Congress criticised ruling BJP stating that a tribal student isn’t safe under the supervision of tribal chief minister.
State Congress chief Deepak Baij said that NSUI will burn effigies of CM and HM in all districts on July 2.
On June 24 night, it was around 1 am when the victim Mangal Muria got down from bus at Kalibadi Chowk and was looking for a conveyance to go to his PG room.
He saw two youths on a bike and asked them to drop him few kms ahead, but the accused youths in stead verbally abused him unnecessarily and then forced him hop on the bike on pretext of giving him a lift.
Police said that the bikers took Mangal to an isolated spot at Bhatagaon region where they thrashed and kicked him so badly that he couldn’t fight back and then banged his head on road causing him severe injuries. They dumped him upon seeing that a police patrol vehicle was approaching.
Police spotted Mangal in bad condition and rushed him hospital where he succumbed during treatment.
Based on the CCTV footage, police arrested SavanDongre, 19 and another 17-year-old juvenile on Sunday, who confessed to crime stating that they killed Mangal because he refused to give password of his ATM. After leaving him injured, the accused had stolen his ATM card, bank passbook, mobile phone and other stuff he was carrying.

Mangal’s parents had passed away few years ago.
Pradesh Congress committee president Deepak Baij on Monday addressed a press conference criticizing the incident and “poor law and order situation” in state.
“When govt is in self-praising mode of good governance, the SP, collector’s office (in Baloda Bazar) are being set on fire, mob lynching is killing three innocents, stabbing cases are on the rise and now tribal student beaten to death. It’s extremely unfortunate that a tribal isn’t safe having a tribal CM in state,” Baij said.
He was an innocent student who needed a lift but the inactive police in state capital couldn’t save a young boy from criminals, Baij said.
“Who is going to establish the law in state? The inexperienced home minister? Because in past six months, it feels like there’s no govt in this state. The criminals have gone unleashed. There have been 80 gangrapes, more than 300 rapes, over 200 murders and several incidents of loot, dacoity, stabbing in past six months,” Baij said.
Baij said that Congress’ NSUI will protest against the murder of tribal student on July 2 and will burn effigies of chief minister and home minister in all district headquarters.
Reacting to Congress' criticism, BJP state spokesperson Devlal Thakur and BJP Scheduled Tribes front state president Vikas Markam termed the Baij's comment as an attempt of "petty politics".
"Congress is doing dirty politics by displaying its petty mentality on the issue of tribal student's death. The culprits have been arrested and it's the commitment of BJP to punish the accused. Congress leaders should feel ashamed before levelling such allegations against while its previous Bhupesh government has the history of death of 40,000 tribal children due to absence of treatment during Congress' tenure. BJP government in state is committed to maintain law and order situation under any circumstances," the spokespersons said.
