Twelve Maoists carrying bounty of Rs 7 lakh surrender

RAIPUR: Citing away time from family and risky life, twelve Maoists including a couple carrying cash reward of Rs 7 lakh, surrendered before police in Bijapur district of Bastar division on Saturday. They belong to Bhairamgarh Area Committee, Gangalur Area Committee and National Park Area Committee, police said.
With this, 123 Maoists have surrendered before the police in Bijapur this year, while 273 Maoists involved in various Maoist incidents have been arrested.The surrendered cadres said that they were fed up with the hollow ideology, discriminatory behaviour, neglect and harassment by the fellow Maoists and felt inclined towards the rehabilitation and surrender policy of Chhattisgarh govt.

Among the cadres who surrendered are Munna Modiyam, 23, who was active since 2007 in platoon number 2 PPCM (Platoon Party Committee Member) under National Park Area Committee, and carried cash reward of Rs 5 lakh. Munna joined the banned outfit as Bal Sangham member in children's wing in Mankeli RPC in the year 2007 and was active till 2010.
He worked as CNM member from 2011 to 2016 and in 2017 was sent to the national park area to work as a party member. He then worked as PPCM in platoon number two. Munna was involved in incidents of arson on construction vehicles engaged on Karremarka to Kachalaram road in 2018, in encounter with police in forest of Marwada in 2021, Talmendri in 2021, and killed a security jawan in an IED blast on Ambeli to Gattapalli road, police said.
His wife Janani Modiyam, 23, was designated national park area committee chetna natya manch president and carried cash reward of Rs 100,000 on her head.
Janani joined the Maoists as Bal Sangham member in Karkawada RPC in 2009. She worked as CNM member from 2013 to 2015 and was designated CNM party member in National Park area and rose to be CNM president in the region in 2022. She and other surrendered cadres were support system for Munna and were involved in all the incidents planned by him.
