BJP observes Black Day to mark Emergency
Ranchi: The state BJP took out a silent procession wearing black badges in the capital on Tuesday evening to observe ‘Black Day’ to mark Emergency anniversary. On June 25 in 1977, Emergency was declared under late prime minister Indira Gandhi’s regime. The saffron camp organised similar programmes across all districts and held seminars earlier in the day.
State party president Babulal Marandi at a seminar in Ranchi said that ‘dictatorship’ and ‘corruption’ are in the DNA of the Congress party.
“The emergency imposed in the country by late Indira Gandhi on 25 June 1975 is a black chapter in the democratic history of India. Today, those who are pretending to save democracy and the constitution had tried to end democracy from India. This is the same Congress which amended the constitution in its own interest. They not only imposed Emergency but also misused its rule to topple many elected govts more than 100 times by clamping the president's rule,” he said.
Hitting back at BJP, Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha said, “The then RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras had supported emergency and the irony is that BJP is celebrating Black Day on Emergency for political drama. BJP must answer and question RSS why did they support Emergency? In its 10 years of rule, BJP has imposed undeclared emergency in the entire country.”
