E S’bhum admin rolls out steps to prevent vector-borne diseases
Jamshedpur: With the onset of monsoon, the East Singhbhum health department has rolled out multiple measures to prevent the outbreak of dengue in the district. Officials of the department said since the urban circle of the district was reporting majority of the dengue cases, they have taken an initiative to involve the community at different stages while taking up awareness campaigns.
District surveillance officer Md Asad said, “At the primary stage, we are holding awareness sessions in schools to educate students about dengue and other vector-borne diseases like malaria and chikungunya.
This apart, steps to prevent water stagnation in residential areas are being taken up. All should know that stagnant water is the breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes which cause dengue.”

The official said door-to-door visits by multi-purpose health workers will be done for the inspection of houses and to provide awareness to the household members. Street plays will be organised at public places like markets and bus and auto-rickshaw stands, and parks to inform the denizens about the community’s role in preventing the outbreak of dengue, the surveillance officer said.
JNAC, MNAC and JMC have been taken on board for carrying out the drive to remove the garbage mounds and clean the clogged drains besides taking up the anti-larval treatment and fogging in a time-frame manner before the monsoon picks up pace.
The Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd (TSUISL), the corporate entity which looks after the civic issues in the command area of Tata Steel and adjoining areas, has launched a comprehensive community engagement drive to raise awareness aimed at encouraging citizens to search and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds in their households and the surrounding areas.
Participants of the initiatives are encouraged to upload pictures of their inspections through the QR code provided by the campaign organisers and get a chance to win gifts from TSUISL.
