Krishnagiri: Archaeological experts on Monday excavated a 4,000-year-old cutting weapon made of stone that measured around 6cm long and 4cm wide at the Sennanur site near Uthangarai in the district.
The Tamil Nadu state archaeological department has been carrying out excavations at eight places across the stat, including Sennanur, since June 18. The excavations were initiated after bricks dating to the Sangam period were unearthed in the region in 2023.
“Terracotta artifacts, russet-coated painted ware and red and black ware, were also unearthed from the Sennanur site” said a site official.
Following these discoveries, the archaeological department commenced excavation over 20 acres in Sennanur, during which the stone cutting weapon was found.
According to the experts, the current discovery could be one of the tools which ancient people used for farming and hunting in the New Stone Age period.
