Shillong: Public health engineering department has denied claims of alleged irregularities in implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the Garo Hills region of the state and assured that no village will be left out of the Centre’s scheme to ensure tap water to every household in rural areas.
“We have made significant progress in providing drinking water supply to villages across the state including Garo Hills.
However, the project is still ongoing and we are resolving different challenges we face during the implementation phase,” an official statement issued by the department said. “While there are challenges such as objections to water sources, land acquisition issues etcetera, these are actively being addressed by our field engineers,” the statement issued by the additional chief engineer (PHE), zone-II, Garo Hills, Tura said.
An official attributed the delay in a few projects to unavoidable reasons such as climatic conditions and logistical issues, forcing some contractors to extend their timelines. “It is important to emphasise that no village will be left out of the scheme,” the official said.
