Meghalaya has 364 HIV-infected kids: Rights body
Shillong: About 364 children in Meghalaya are infected with HIV. NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo revealed this after a meeting with 16 departments of the state govt here on Saturday to address various issues affecting children.
Speaking to the media, Kanoongo said the situation was alarming as far as children infected with HIV were concerned. He asked the department concerned to examine whether sponsorship could be arranged for these children under Section 45 of the JJ Act so that they could be provided with financial assistance by the govt, reports Manosh Das.
At present, the state has 8,000 HIV positive people.
