Surat: The Goa trip of a 24-year-old man and his wife was abruptly cut short when he was deboarded from IndiGo's Surat-Goa flight and apprehended by police a day after he was booked for rioting.
On Monday, the Hazira police got information that Kishan Patel, a resident of Hazira, would be boarding a flight to Goa with his wife in the afternoon. As time was running out, the cops dialled the airport officials and asked them to stop Patel from boarding the flight.
However, the flight had taken the taxiway and was about to hit the runway for take off. The air traffic controller (ATC) directed the pilot to return to the aerobridge where Patel was deboarded and escorted by CISF personnel to the terminal where he was handed over to police.
“We coordinated with CISF and the airports authority which brought him to the terminal from where we took his custody,” said Deep Vakil, assistant commissioner of police. Following the high drama, the IndiGo’s Goa flight was delayed by an hour. It was scheduled to depart at 3.25pm but got the final clearance at 4.47 pm. There were some 150 passengers on board.
According to case details, Patel and his friends had clashed with security guards outside the AM/NS plant at Hazira on Sunday evening. Patel and his friends tried to forcibly enter the AM/NS unit but the security guards stopped them. This resulted in heated arguments and Patel and others allegedly thrashed the guards. Police had launched the hunt for the assailants since then. tnn
