Flyer conceals gold paste worth 35L in her rectum
Surat: A woman from Valsad was detained at the Surat International Airport after she was found in possession of 550 gm gold paste worth Rs 35 lakh. The woman who had returned from Dubai had hidden the undeclared gold paste concealed in rubber tubes inside her rectum, said customs officials.
According to case details, the customs officials detained the woman after she got off the Dubai flight on Wednesday.
As her movement was suspicious, the customs officials stopped her for questioning and informed the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
When asked to get an x-ray scan, the woman refused. As she was not cooperating with the investigation, the customs officials got an order from a magistrate for her medical examination. On medical exam, two capsules of gold paste were recovered from her rectum. After completing the procedure the woman was allowed to go.
The woman will be called for further investigation when required. Since the value of the seized material was lower than Rs 50 lakh, customs officials could not arrest her.
According to customs officials, the woman had visited Dubai at least four times in the past year. Based on her profiling, she was identified and questioned. Customs officials suspect that she was part of a syndicate involved in gold smuggling.
