Compensation disbursal set to begin next month

Thiruvananthapuram: The compensation disbursal to the 90 landowners who concede their land for the proposed flyover at Peroorkada will begin next month. The revenue department will issue 19(1) notifications next week. Once the compensation amount is fully dispensed, the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd (RBDCK), the implementing agency for the project, will float a tender for the construction.Meanwhile, the confusion over the survey stones that were placed earlier during the acquisition proceedings have been resolved.
V K Prasanth MLA said all the issues related to the land acquisition have been resolved and RBDCK is set to start the compensation disbursal process. “The disbursal will begin next month, and the tender will be called subsequently,” he said.
The 874-metre-long two-lane flyover is expected to decongest the busy Peroorkada junction. The flyover has been a long-pending demand of commuters. Four main roads, including the ones to Nedumangad and Kudappanakunnu, intersect at the junction. Hence, traffic regulation using signals alone cannot solve the bottlenecks at the spot.
As per the plan, the flyover will start near Lourdes Church in Peroorkada and end near St Jude’s Church in Vazhayila.
PWD minister P A Mohamed Riyas laid the foundation stone for the flyover in Nov 2021. The total cost of the project is Rs 106 crore, of this, Rs 55 crore will be utilised for land acquisition, and the remaining amount will be used for construction.
Besides building the flyover, there is a proposal to widen the road at Ambalamukku by 21 meters. A final approval has been received from KIIFB. The RBDCK had sought sanction for acquiring 160.65 acres of land in Peroorkada and Kudappanakunnu villages for the flyover. As per the new proposal, around 25 shops on either side of the road need to be demolished.
