THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI has expressed strong disapproval of the meeting between CPM central committee member and LDF convener E P Jayarajan and BJP Kerala in-charge Prakash Javadekar.
“It was inappropriate to hold such a meeting. Even more serious was the revelation made by Jayarajan on the day of polling,” CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam said on Sunday.
CPI is of the view that Jayarajan's actions have brought disgrace to LDF and raised credibility issues.
On whether Jayarajan should step down from his position as LDF convener, Viswam said CPM has the maturity to take corrective measures if required.
He also said it is CPM’s responsibility to decide whether Jayarajan should remain in his post.
Prakash Javadekar, who is in charge of BJP affairs in Kerala is engaged in recruiting new members into the party. Hence, such a meeting has sent a wrong message, he added. The CPI leader insisted that the matter is not just an internal issue of CPM, and hence it requires immediate attention and a proper response.
“All leaders have to be cautious when interacting with individuals who approach with business intentions. Power brokers are mushrooming in politics, and we have to be careful while dealing with such people,” he said.
Viswam also stressed the importance of Left party leaders setting a good example for others.
On the day the news broke out, CPI had said that if an individual has committed wrongdoing, it is the responsibility of the individual and not indicative of any fault with the organization.
