56 shops closed for selling banned tobacco items
Trichy: Intensifying the crackdown on the illicit trade of prohibited gutka in the district, the food safety and drug administration department closed 56 establishments in three days.
Food safety officer R Rameshbabu deployed eight teams for the drive from June 25 to June 27.
With support from local police, the the food safety and drug administration teams shut down the shops on levied a total fine of 16.6 lakh.

Rameshbabu stated that the crackdown on the sale of the banned tobacco products will continue.
The public can report illegal sale of gutka in their localities to Trichy office at 96268-39595 or the state office at 94440-42322.
