Trichy: A regional review meeting on implementing the kuruvai paddy cultivation package of 78.6 crore announced by the state govt for the seven Cauvery delta districts was conducted at the Trichy district collector office.
Agriculture production commissioner and principal secretary Selvi Apoorva and director of agriculture B Murugesh presided over the meeting.
Officials were instructed to promote Seevan Samba, a traditional paddy breed with a crop cycle of 145 days.
Officials from Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, and Cuddalore districts were directed to increase the acreage of the short-term paddy cultivation season (kuruvai) by making use of the special package. In Trichy district, around 2,700 more acres will be brought under the kuruvai cultivation.
“Beneficiaries for the kuruvai package would be selected soon. If they were selected already, fertilisers and micronutrients would be disbursed swiftly. Through the agriculture engineering department, farmers should be supported by providing paddy harvester machines on time,” Selvi Apoorva said.
Senior officials insisted on promoting the chief minister’s Mannuyir Kaathu Mannuyir Kappom.
