Explain admission irregularities: MSU V-C tells law faculty dean
VADODARA: M S University (MSU) vice-chancellor professor Ramesh Goyal has sought an explanation from officiating dean of Faculty of Law over allegations raked up by the NSUI on violation of Bar Council of India (BCI) rules regarding admission in the Bachelor of Law (LLB) course.
Since Saturday, NSUI has been demanding action against faculty's officiating dean Ghanshyam Solanki for violating BCI rules by admitting students at the faculty beyond the intake capacity prescribed for the LLB course.
According to NSUI, against the sanctioned intake strength of 240 seats, Solanki has given admission to 333 students during this academic year in first year LLB.
The student leaders have been claiming that 278 students even managed to appear for exams during this academic year. Solanki has so far not refuted the allegations made by NSUI that 93 extra admissions have been granted in the faculty.
The student leaders have already approached the law ministry citing rules prescribed in schedule-I by the BCI which state that maximum strength of students in any class (be it LLB — I, II, III, IV or V) should not exceed 320 in any given college or university or Department of Law and the number of students in any section of each of such class shall not exceed 80.
"I have sought a clarification from the dean based on the complaint that we have received," Goyal told TOI on Monday.
