VADODARA: M S University's syndicate meetings being adjourned are heard of, but one has never seen syndicate members coming with written resolutions to the meeting. On Thursday, majority group of syndicate members came with written resolutions and did not want to have any discussions on the items listed on the agenda. There were a total of 42 items that had to be discussed, but those concerning teachers were kept aside.
Items concerning teachers promotion, career advancement scheme and selections were set aside as majority group of syndicate members asserted that proper process needed to be followed.
Syndicate members said legal opinion will be taken on the resignation of suspended professor Shivji Panikkar, which was submitted in May. An inquiry is pending against him over the controversy generated by a painting of a student sometime ago.
The highlight of the meeting was the written resolution brought to the venue. Majority group of syndicate members during the pre-syndicate meeting had written down their resolutions for the 42 items. When the same was given to vice-chancellor Ramesh Goyal, there was a ruckus over this. Three members objected to the written resolutions and stated that they can pen their opinions but resolutions can only be passed during the meeting after a discussion.
