Vadodara: Residents of houses developed by the Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) in Diwalipura in Tarsali held demonstrations outside the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) headquarters in Khanderao Market. The protestors were peeved as the drainage, water and power connections of the houses were severed on Thursday as the structures were dilapidated.
VMC and the housing board are both of the opinion that the buildings were not fit for habitation.
Reports regarding the housing blocks have also been obtained and 312 blocks were issued notices earlier. The residents had resisted a move to sever the connections on June 15, but could do little on Thursday when officials and workers of VMC and GHB came with police security.
The residents met BJP MLA and former minister Yogesh Patel on Friday demanding that their power, water and drainage connections be restored. Patel too slammed the officials for their action. “If these 2,000-5,000 houses are demolished where will people go? Do they want to create chaos? Which officials gave these instructions that can cause riots?” he said.
