29-yr-old arrested for raping, killing minor

Varanasi: The Varanasi commissionerate police on Saturday arrested a 29-year-old man on the charges of killing a 13-year-old girl after raping her on June 26. The body of the minor was found in a water tank of a house in Kashiraj apartment of Nadesar area under the limits of Cantonment police station on June 28. Police got a clue about the killer with the help of CCTV footage.
Producing the arrested accused, Ashish alias Golu of Rajabazar before reporters on Saturday afternoon, ADCP Varuna zone Saravanan T and ACP Cantt Vidush Saxena said that police teams had started investigating the matter and checked the footage of hundreds of cameras through which the killer was identified.After the police nabbed Golu, he confessed to his crime and divulged that he often talked to the minor girl.
On June 26 evening, he took her to the terrace of A-block of Kashiraj apartment and raped the girl despite strong resistance by her. As the girl fell unconscious, he dumped her into a water tank and fled. The incident had come to light on June 28 (Friday) when the body of the girl was found in the water tank of the apartment. The girl’s family said that she was missing for two days and a complaint had also been lodged with the Cantt police station. When the news spread, hundreds of locals gathered near the apartment. Many senior officials also inspected the spot while the forensic team was also engaged for evidence collection.
The police got clues after going through CCTV footage of the surrounding buildings in which Golu was seen going towards the roof of the apartment with the girl. The minor was a student of class seven and was good in studies.
